What brought you to UPEI? Why did you choose to study here?

I was born in PEI and grew up in Summerside. Once I graduated high school I moved away for the experience, but the time spent on PEI in my adolescent years was undoubtedly impactful on the path I鈥檝e taken in my career thus far.

Initially, I had been weighing my options between other universities in Canada, but PEI offered a unique opportunity, where I could enter a 2+2 program to receive a practical diploma in Environmental Applied Science and Technology from Holland College and continue my education in one of several universities across Canada to receive a full bachelor鈥檚 degree.

What did you find unique and interesting about the Bachelor of Environmental Studies program?

When choosing which university to continue my secondary education, I was again faced with several choices of universities across Canada. Many other universities offered an Environmental Science degree which focused on more of the same practical lab work and sciences behind the subject, but 大发快三平台offered a program in Environmental Studies which is unique in that it provides a more holistic view of humans and the environment. I found that the program offered by 大发快三平台provided background knowledge in topics more aligned with my career goals, such as research and writing skills, environmental regulation and valuation, stakeholder analysis, public perception of science, and others. These all provide valuable skills that don鈥檛 necessarily involve being in the lab.

What kind of support did you receive from 大发快三平台students, staff, and faculty members during your time here?

大发快三平台is a smaller school, which provides many opportunities for in-class discussion with professors and one-on-one time, either during office hours or scheduled events. These are all opportunities that should be taken advantage of by the student as they will increase the value of your education through better understanding and transfer of knowledge from those who have been working in the field of your chosen study for many years.

What kinds of opportunities have you experienced because you studied at UPEI, or because of the Island鈥檚 location?

If you have the opportunity to work on PEI after graduation, one of the benefits you will have from studying at 大发快三平台is networking with students and faculty. This is another reason it can prove valuable to take advantage of office hours and small class sizes for an in-depth discussion of the topics in your classes.

What's unique about UPEI, and Prince Edward Island, in your experience?

Due to the size of PEI, you will have the chance to explore many different parts of the Island and it鈥檚 only a short drive away to see many of the beautiful trails and beaches the Island has to offer. For its size, Charlottetown offers one of Canada鈥檚 most diverse and abundant restaurant scenes, so there is always good food around the corner.

What would you tell a high school student considering the program?

I would say there's no rush to enter a university program, but if you enjoy the environment with a mix of office and outdoor work, this program provides a solid base to work from and you will be able to pull from the program as much as you鈥檙e willing to put into it.
